The Village of Woodsfield cares for two parks inside village limits:  the Monroe Memorial Park & Pool located at 425 Eastern Avenue (SR78), and the City Park located across from the Switzerland of Ohio School Board Office at 304 Mill Street. There is also a Walking Trail located near Westwood Landing assisted living facilities and Fire Station #40 on Airport Road off of SR 78. Both parks and the Walking Trail are open year-round, with the exception of seasonal pool accommodations.

City Park

The City Park has a playground area, basketball court, and youth baseball fields. It is also the site of various activities throughout the year and displays an historical marker near its entrance signifying the existence of the old Bellaire, Zanesville and Cincinnati Railroad. The City Park is undergoing improvements that will be completed in phases. In order to meet the recreation needs of multiple generations there are future plans to include a picnic pavilion and additional playground equipment.

Monroe Memorial Park

The Monroe Memorial Park includes a playground area, community pool, tennis courts, basketball court, the Monroe Central High School football stadium, and Rosie Hall ballfields. The football stadium and ballfields are managed by the Switzerland of Ohio School District. Each home game of the Monroe Central Seminoles High School Football Team is played here.

The Monroe Memorial Pool and Poolhouse is opened each year near Memorial Day and is closed mid-August. In addition to the 8-foot deep pool with diving board, there is a baby/toddler pool for smaller children. All children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult. There is an admission price to use the pool. Annual Passes are available for singles or groups of 4. Hours of operation are Monday-Saturday, Noon – 5pm and Sundays from 1-5 pm. Moonlight swims are held each Thursday from 7-10 pm for an admission of $3 (no passes accepted).  A concession stand serves a wide variety of refreshments each day. For pool information during the open season, call (740) 472-0471. Visit our FB page: www.facebook.com/MonroeMemorialPool

The SOLSD Alternative School is also located at Monroe Memorial Park within the Community Center, or what is also known as the “Youth Center” from a by-gone era. The Community Center has classrooms throughout the school day; but can be rented for meetings, birthday parties, banquets, etc. during the after-school hours, weekends or summer break. The Community Center has bathroom and kitchen facilities. For more information, please contact the Park Manager at (740) 472-0471.

Woodsfield Walking Trail

The Walking Trail has been an on-going project over several years, and has recently been adopted by local organizations as a project they want to undertake. There are plans to extend the trail to the nearby Woodsfield Elementary School and create an outdoor classroom for students. Additional endeavors include a picnic area and bench seating. The trail is currently one-mile in length, of which .25 mile is paved and the remainder is a wooded path. The trailhead is marked.
