The Cemetery Department cares for two cemeteries in the Village of Woodsfield:
The Pioneer Cemetery

The Pioneer Cemetery was established in 1812 and is less than 3.5 acres. The grounds can be accessed from North Sycamore Street. Two United States Congressman were laid to rest here:Â William Forest Hunter in 1874 and Albert Jackson Pearson in 1905.
The Oaklawn Cemetery

The Oaklawn Cemetery is a vast cemetery of approximately 40 acres, often chosen for its scenic setting and personal care provided by Cemetery Personnel. Its grand entrance is located at 227 Oaklawn Avenue (SR 800). The cemetery is open year-round and available for gravesite services at the convenience of the family. Oaklawn is also frequented by regular âwalkersâ, who walk the many paved paths throughout the grounds for exercise. Famous persons buried here are Sam Pond (Sad Sam) Jones (1966), a major league baseball player, and William Crittenden Mooney (1918), a United States Congressman and former President of the Monroe Bank on Main Street.
